High resolution 3D model of Endurance

One of the great explorer stories that has ever been told is that of Ernest Shackleton and his crew as they tried to reach the South pole, got trapped in the ice and endured incredible hardship to survive. Amazingly all the crew survived, minus a few body parts, and the diaries of the crew detail this feat of human perseverance.

I recently read the book Finding Endurance by Darrel Bristow-Bovey which brings together different aspects of the story, from the actual events as described in the diaries of the crew to work that was undertaken to rediscover the ship and preserve the site.

If they say a picture is worth a 1000 words, then how many words is an interactive 3D model worth? The footage recently released of the wreck is simply amazing and provides a connection to the story that is almost unbelievable – that we can witness the last acts on the ship before she went down and that she now sits undisturbed 3,000m at the bottom of the Weddell Sea. Outstanding use of marine technology by the team.
