Aquaculture UK moved to its new home in Glasgow. For two days, the SEC hosted 250 aquaculture exhibitors spanning from cage and boat suppliers, through fish welfare monitoring technologies such as ROVs and cameras, to software products and research institutions. It was a fantastic opportunity to make new industry connections and learn about state-of-the-art technologies. As a part of the event, the organisers hosted an awards ceremony. Thirteen prizes were awarded, recognising outstanding work in sectors such as innovation, collaboration, animal welfare, and contributions to the industry. Tritonia Scientific won the innovation category, competing against four other companies, each developing new, exciting technologies.
Emma Poliakova says: “As a KTP associate, it is fantastic to be a part of a company that is at the forefront of innovation and getting to shape the whole monitoring sector of the aquaculture industry.”
Emma also presented at the Marine Imaging Workshop, organised every two years and brings together a large group of experts in underwater image processing. This year, the conference took place in sunny Gibraltar. Over three days, they covered topics on image capture & processing, AI in marine science, ocean data management, and biology advancements through imaging. The busy program also included a poster session and two workshop sessions demonstrating methods for de-noising images, FathomNet and Squidle+ use cases, as well as discussions focused on ID standardisation and education initiatives. MTRU’s Emma Poliakova presented her research on the underwater image pre-processing, showcasing an app developed as a part of the KTP project with Tritonia, which removes almost all manual work needed when preparing images for 3D photogrammetry. She was awarded the best student talk prize for her presentation.
